The 4th China Innovations in Cardiology (CIC) Held in Nanjing

The 4th China Innovations in Cardiology (CIC) was successfully held in Nanjing on November 16-18, 2017. This year’s conference grows larger in scale with more than 1500 participants, including over 20 experts from the US, Canada, Germany and Japan, etc. 

The Conference covered 324 presentations under 18 sessions in the field of translational medicine, attracting nearly ten thousand people to interact via the live webcast. 9 innovative projects participated in the innovation contest and 14 full 24-hour and uninterrupted operations were live broadcasted. All these gave a full expression of updated advances and trends in the innovation of cardiovascular field.

The Conference was hosted by Nanjing Medical University, with Chinese Society of Cardiology (CSC), Chinese Medical Association of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Branch, Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu Province as supporting organizations, Engineering Technology Research Center of Diagnosis and Therapy for Cardiovascular Disease of Jiangsu Province as organizer.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Xiangqing Kong (Executive Chairman of CIC and Nanjing Medical University Professor) and participated by Junbo Ge from Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University (Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chairman of CSC and CIC), Professor Yong Huo from Peking University First Hospital (former Chairman of CSC and Chairman of CIC), Professor Shu Zhang from Fu Wai Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (Honorary Chairman of Chinese Medical Association of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Branch and Chairman of CIC), Professor Congxin Huang from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (former Chairman of Chinese Medical Association of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Branch and Chairman of CIC ), Liang Xu from Center for Medical Device Evaluation, CFDA, Xiangping Kong, Deputy Director of Price Bureau of Jiangsu Province, Dayang Hu, Director of Jiangsu Medical Insurance Management Center, Jun Dong from FDA, Hongbing Shen, Principal of Nanjing Medical University, Jinhai Tang, Director of The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Professor Anthony Rosenzweig from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Professor Dhanunjaya Lakkireddy from University of Kansas Medical Center, Professor George Abela from Michigan State University and Yiwei Zhao, CEO of Dinova Capital and Executive Chairman of CIC.

Jinhai Tang: Stay Firm To Innovation


 

Jinhai Tang, Director of The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, emphasized importance of the application of novel technologies and materials in treating cardiovascular diseases and expressed his wishes for the future of cardiovascular field. He added that therapy for cardiovascular diseases should follow the principles of 19th CPC National Congress and stay firm to the innovation course. He also took this opportunity to invite experts from home and abroad to visit the Hospital’s 250-thousand-square-meter new building, which was put into operation this year.

Xiangping Kong: Chinese Culture is all about “Heart”


Xiangping Kong, Deputy Director of Price Bureau of Jiangsu Province, explained the importance of “heart” from different aspects. He noted that Chinese culture is closed related to heart, which demonstrates respect for history, humanity and life. He expected this Conference to raise people’s awareness of heart and prompt more innovative technologies that are able to stand the test of time, thus to bring healthy hearts to our people and welfare to mankind. In the Conference, he further explained key areas for the management of medical payment in the future, adding that management measures for new medical service devices will be revised in Jiangsu Province and innovation in medical devices is greatly encouraged. He also indicated that reporting procedures for new medical service projects will be simplified and utmost supports will be extended to these projects.

Dayang Hu: Establish a Medical Insurance System with Chinese Characteristics, Encourage Innovative Strategies for Medicine




Dayang Hu, Director of Jiangsu Medical Insurance Management Center, said, responding to the call of 19th CPC National Congress which is of epoch-making significance, we should establish a medical insurance system with Chinese characteristics and encourage innovative strategies for medicine. Over 20 years’ work since 1994, a medical insurance system has been comprehensively enforced in Jiangsu Province, with 95% of its a total of 840 thousand population being covered by Medical Insurance for Urban Employees and Urban Residents Basic Health Insurance. Jiangsu Medical Insurance Management Center would continue to encourage and cultivate enterprises’ motivation in R & D and innovation.

Hongbing Shen: Keep in Mind Our Responsibilities and Missions, Continue to play a demonstration role of Health Care 


 

Hongbing Shen, Principal of Nanjing Medical University, gave detailed explanation of CIC 2017. General Secretary Xi jinping indicated in 19th CPC National Congress that people’s health is an importance indicator of national prosperity, Shen added, as one of the first batch of medical universities authorized by national ministries and commissions and high level university of Jiangsu Province, Nanjing Medical University and its Affiliated Hospital would keep in minds their responsibilities and missions, continuing to play the demonstration role of health care leader, thus to do more pioneering work in promoting overall services of regional heath care services and fostering the establishment Healthy China and Healthy Jiangsu.    

Junbo Ge, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yong Huo, Professor Anthony Rosenzweig, Professor Shu Zhang, Professor Congxin Huang respectively delivered speeches of Lowering LDL-C Target to the Level in Newborns, Construction on Chest Pain Center in China, Treatment for Heart Failure: Experience From MGH of Harvard Medical School, Novel Technologies that Change the Future of Cardiac Arrhythmia, Big Data and Smart Health after the opening ceremony.
